The University
There are over 20,000 students at Oxford, including 11,765 undergraduates and 8,701 postgraduates.
The University has 38 independent and self-governing colleges. The University's oldest colleges are University College, Balliol College and Merton College, all of which were established by the 13th century.
Throughout its history, Oxford has produced gifted men and women in every sphere of human endeavour who have studied or taught at the University.
Among them are 26 British Prime Ministers, including the current one, the Rt Hon David Cameron MP, at least 30 international leaders, 47 Nobel Prize winners, 7 current holders of the order of Merit, at least 12 saints, 20 Archbishops of Canterbury and some 50 Olympic medal winners.
The City
Oxford, The City of Dreaming Spires, is famous the world over for its University and place in history. For over 800 years, it has been a home to royalty and scholars, and an established town since the 9th century, although people are known to have lived in the area for thousands of years.
With its mix of ancient and modern, there is plenty to do; a visit to one of the many historic buildings, colleges or museums, going out for a drink or a meal, taking in a show or shopping till you drop.
